Annual WHA Community Holiday Gift to FriendshipWorks 2011

Hi!

As we do every year, in lieu of Christmas Cards, we make a gift in the name of clients, friends, and the staff of Walnut Hill Advisors, LLC to FriendshipWorks.

As a reminder, FriendsipWorks is a non-profit that focuses on serving shut-in seniors in the Boston area. Since many of us can say that we have friends and family, and that we’re not alone, maybe we don’t realize what it’s like to have NO ONE.

FriendshipWorks offers many programs that provide companionship and assistance to lonely seniors including:

Friendly Visiting – companionship from volunteers of all ages to local seniors

Medical Escort – volunteers who help seniors get to their medical appointments

Petpals – companions with pets who visit with seniors

La Cadena de Amistad – companionship programs for Spanish speakers

Strong for Life – a companionship fitness program

I found out about FriendshipWorks some years back through a church volunteer fair. Formerly known as Match Up Interfaith Volunteers, Friendshipworks has been providing companionship to lonely seniors since 1984.

A Personal Note from Me

I want to thank you all again for your confidence and trust. 2011 has been a wild year so far (we still have a few days left!) and I know many of you are worried about the state of financial affairs worldwide.  I am heartened when you express your trust that together we will weather any financial situation and create strategies to help us all thrive.

There are people who want financially in this world, and thinking about THEM helps us put our financial problems in perspective. Furthermore, when we think of giving to charity, we often think about financial gifts. However, there are also people who want emotionally. FriendshipWorks helps these people. Nothing compares to having family and friends in your life that care about you, don’t you think?  In helping FriendshipWorks, I know we are helping to bring friends to people who have none – because loneliness is an awful feeling, especially amplified around Christmas with all of the TV commercials and music highlighting fun, family and friends.

With all of that said, I must share my gratitude with you all. Thank you again (and again) for being part of our little Walnut Hill Advisors community – whether you are my amazing assistant Lauren (isn’t she amazing?:), a treasured client, one of the excellent subject matter experts (SME) I turn to for help with clients’ planning (our community attorneys, CPAs, mortgage brokers, real estate agents, consultants), one of our wonderful friends who help us hold community workshops (senior center staff, library staff, conference center staff, restaurant staff), or any of the other many people whom we call friends, it is a blessing and honor to know you.

Have a wonderful Christmas, a very happy Hanukkah, an excellent New Year celebration. And best of all, see you in 2012!

Chris

PS – I’d like to drop in a note of prayer for those members of our community that worked through personal or health challenges this year and thanks for those who fought through health or personal challenges and came through triumphantly.
